Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United States. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage that she founded. NRT purchased it for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran soon exited the company. Corcoran was among the first Shark Tank investors. She has appeared on every season of ABC's Shark Tank. As of February 2020, she had signed 53 deals on the show, the largest being a $350,000 investment in 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second child of ten in an Irish-Catholic working class family. Florence Corcoran's mother was an errand-taker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr., her father, was constantly changing jobs throughout Corcoran’s life. Her family was sometimes dependent on the food provided by an artisanal local grocery store for free food. Corcoran says her father was a drunken man who did her mother a disservice and condescension. Corcoran struggled at school, and eventually discovered that she was dyslexic. Corcoran started high school at St. Cecilia High School Englewood, after she left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran dropped a few classes during her first year, and then transferred to Leonia High School where she was an A student.
